Surfactant spreading in a two-dimensional cavity and emergent contact-line singularities

چکیده
We model the advective Marangoni spreading of insoluble surfactant at free surface a viscous fluid that is confined within two-dimensional rectangular cavity. Interfacial deflections are assumed small, with contact lines pinned to walls cavity, and inertia neglected. Linearizing transport equation about equilibrium state allows modal decomposition dynamics, eigenvalues corresponding decay rates perturbations. Computation family mutually orthogonal eigenfunctions reveals singular flow structures near each line, resulting in spatially oscillatory patterns wall shear stress pressure field diverges logarithmically. These singularities stationary line associated dynamic compression monolayer; we show how they can be regularized by weak diffusion. Their existence highlights need for careful treatment computations unsteady advection-dominated domains.

Moving contact line with balanced stress singularities
A difficulty in the classical hydrodynamic analysis of moving contact-line problems, associated with the no-slip wall boundary condition resulting in an unbalanced divergence of the viscous stresses, is reexamined with a smoothed, finite-width interface model. The analysis in the sharp-interface limit shows that the singularity of the viscous stress can be balanced by another singularity of the...

We have measured the thickness profiles of ultrasmall (picoliter volume) droplets of polyd~mcthvls~loxane during thelr spreading on a silver surface at centra! thicknesses below one monolayer. The resulting prufile shapes can he approximated well by shperical caps, and the diffusion dynamics are q u ~ t e difterent from those expected for mintlike particles. Thc cxpcrimental data are in remarka...
متن کاملContact Singularities
A contact singularity is a normal singularity (V, 0) together with a holomorphic contact form η on V \ Sing V in a neighbourhood of 0, i.e. η∧(dη) r has no zero, where dim V = 2r + 1. The main result of this paper is that there are no isolated contact singularities.

Thin liquid films have been studied extensively because of their interesting mathematical behavior (for instance, [2]) and industrial applications. Films under the influence of surfactants, which lower surface tension in the fluid, exhibit spreading and the formation of capillary ridges. In the experiment I am considering, a ring of surfactant is placed in glycerin, which produces radial propag...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional Two Contact Double Resonance Spectroscopy
A two-dimensional spectroscopic technique is presented. Application of the technique to determine all the relaxation rates for a multi-level quadrupole system is discussed along with experimental requirements. Theoretical and experimental data are analyzed for theN, three level, spin 1 system. The analysis shows that all three relaxation rates can be obtained from a single two-dimensional spect...
